About

Etcher writes an operating system image to an SD card or USB drive. You choose the image, choose the drive and start. It can also flash Raspberry Pi devices that support USB device boot mode directly.

It steers you away from your own hard drives, so you are less likely to overwrite the wrong disk, and it checks that every byte was written correctly. Versions exist for Linux, Windows 10 and later, and macOS 10.13 or newer (Intel and Apple Silicon).

Highlights

  • Writes OS images to SD cards and USB drives
  • Guards against writing to your own hard drives
  • Verifies every byte after writing

Who it's for

Good for setting up a Raspberry Pi or a USB drive from an OS image without risking your own disks
