About

cmus plays your music collection from inside the terminal. It is a small console player for Unix-like systems with an ncurses-based interface, so you can browse and listen without leaving the command line.

It is built from source with a configure script that detects which features are available. Input and output plugins are optional, so you can enable support for the audio formats and sound systems you use, such as FLAC, Opus, Vorbis, ALSA, PulseAudio or JACK, and leave out the rest.

Highlights

  • Ncurses interface inside the terminal
  • Optional plugins for FLAC, Opus, Vorbis and more
  • Output through ALSA, PulseAudio or JACK

Who it's for

Good for people who live in the terminal and want to play their music without a graphical player.
