NATS lets applications, services and devices send messages to one another. You can run the server on your own hardware, in the cloud, at the edge, or even on a Raspberry Pi, and connect programs written in many languages.
The server is written in Go and is part of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation. Over 40 client languages are available. A third-party security audit by Trail of Bits, commissioned through OSTIF, was published in April 2025, and the code is released under the Apache 2.0 license.
