About

Edit programs and plain text files entirely from the keyboard. Vim is an improved version of the classic Vi editor, with multi-level undo, syntax highlighting, command line history, spell checking, filename completion, block operations and a scripting language.

Commands use normal keys, though you can also map function keys and use the mouse, and a graphical version exists. It runs on Windows, macOS, Haiku, VMS and most Unix systems. A minimal build, often called vim.tiny, serves as the default vi on many Linux distributions.

Highlights

  • Multi-level undo and syntax highlighting
  • Built-in spell checking and scripting language
  • Runs on Windows, macOS and most Unix systems
