About

Show files in your terminal with syntax colors and Git change markers in the left margin. It works like cat: you can open one file, several files at once, or text piped in from another command, and long output opens in a pager automatically.

When you pipe bat into another program or a file, it falls back to printing plain contents, so it can replace cat in scripts. You can reveal non-printable characters, set options in a configuration file and use it as a previewer for tools such as fzf.

Highlights

  • Syntax highlighting for many languages
  • Shows Git modifications in the sidebar
  • Acts as a plain cat when piped

Who it's for

Good for anyone who reads code, logs and config files in the terminal and wants them easier to scan.
