About

Record what happens in your terminal and play it back later, or stream it live to people watching. Instead of a heavy video file, you get a small text-based recording that you can replay in the terminal, embed on a web page or publish to an asciinema server.

Recordings use the asciicast format and can be compressed with zstd. You can change playback speed, limit idle time, add markers, convert recordings to plain text and join several into one. A headless mode suits scripts and CI. It runs on Linux, macOS and FreeBSD.

Highlights

  • Record and replay terminal sessions
  • Live streaming to several viewers
  • Convert to plain text or join recordings

Who it's for

Good for developers and teachers who want to show a command-line demo as light, replayable text.
