About

Search every file in a folder for a regular expression and see the matching lines. By default ripgrep respects your gitignore rules and skips hidden files, hidden directories and binary files, so results stay focused on your actual code.

If you want everything, the -uuu option turns the automatic filtering off. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, with binary downloads for each release. The documentation includes a user guide, FAQ, regex syntax, configuration files and shell completions, plus benchmarks against grep-style tools.

Highlights

  • Recursive regex search through a directory
  • Respects gitignore and skips binary files by default
  • Runs on Windows, macOS and Linux
