Logstash collects logs, events and other data from many sources at the same time, reshapes it, and sends it on to the storage or search system you choose. Elasticsearch is the usual destination, but it is not the only one.
It runs as a server-side pipeline on the Java platform. Over 200 plugins cover inputs, transformations and outputs, and each plugin is a separate Ruby gem. If you need something that does not exist yet, you can write your own plugin.
